5HTP is formed in the nerve cells that make the neurotransmitter serotonin. Back Bay Scientific scientists have recently shown that when 5HTP is taken alone without drugs like enzyme "inhibitors" it enters the person's blood stream, from which it can enter the brain and be converted to serotonin. 5HTP can be used in situations when a large increase in brain serotonin release might be helpful, i.e. stress induced overeating or to help stop smoking.
Resveratrol can affect the way the body breaks down the brain protein APP (Amyloid Pre cursor Protein). This protein is normally broken down to "Soluble APP" (good APP) that helps stimulate nerve cells to grow normally, however it can also be broken down into A-beta, which may be toxic. Resveratrol enhances formation of the "good APP", which promotes normal memory function.
Uridine and Choline, two compounds normally present in the blood stream interact to enhance growth of membranes in brain cells. They also enhance the formation if acetylcholine - a neurotransmitter of major importance in learning and memory.
